NAIC (National Assocation of Insurance Commissioners )Recommendations Wait for Congressional Approval

Mutual of Omaha product development manager Angie Nekola explains the proposed restructuring of Medicare supplements in the July 16 National Underwriter, Life and Health edition.

Recommendations to modernize the program include:

  • Introduce lower-premium plans with higher out-of-pocket costs
  • Add a hospice benefit as a basic benefit
  • Increase the Part B excess benefit in Plan G to 100%

Once Congress approves the changes, insurance companies will adjust their plans by a certain date. Implementation is not expected before 2008.
